Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board has announced a consultation on how Specialist Palliative Care is delivered in the RCT / Merthyr / Bridgend Area.
One of the proposals is to close the eight-bed SPC ward at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon and move provision to at-home care. Plaid Cymru candidates have welcomed the increase in at-home care, but we believe this should be done alongside the continued provision in Ysbyty Cwm Cynon.
To close the ward increases the risk of shifting the burden of care onto families. We have serious concerns that this decision is being made due to staffing shortages rather than with the aim of providing the best care.
Heledd Fychan MS has written to the Health Board asking for a meeting to discuss these concerns.
