Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board has announced a consultation on how Specialist Palliative Care is delivered in the RCT / Merthyr / Bridgend Area.
One of the proposals is to close the eight-bed SPC ward at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon and move provision to at-home care. Plaid Cymru candidates have welcomed the increase in at-home care, but we believe this should be done alongside the continued provision in Ysbyty Cwm Cynon.

Plaid Cymru launched their Pontypridd: Cynon: Merthyr campaign for the 2026 Senedd Election at YMa in Pontypridd on the 6th November.
Following hustings in Pontypridd, Merthyr and online, Plaid Cymru members have selected their list of candidates for the 2026 Senedd Election.

A message from Cllr Dawn Wood
Dear Pontypridd Town Ward resident,
As many of you will be aware, I’ve had to take a period of absence from my role as both your RCT Councillor and Pontypridd Town Councillor for the past few months because of significant health challenges linked to a brain tumour.
Thank you for all your kind words, support and understanding during this time.
After careful consideration and consultation with my medical team, I have come to the difficult decision that I must step down from my role to focus on my health and well being and have therefore tendered my resignation with immediate effect.
Today (27th November 2024), Plaid Cymru Member of the Senedd for South Wales Central, Heledd Fychan, has written to the Deputy First Minister of the Welsh Government requesting greater support for communitites impacted by flooding.
