Specialist Palliative Care Ward under threat

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board has announced a consultation on how Specialist Palliative Care is delivered in the RCT / Merthyr / Bridgend Area.

One of the proposals is to close the eight-bed SPC ward at Ysbyty Cwm Cynon and move provision to at-home care. Plaid Cymru candidates have welcomed the increase in at-home care, but we believe this should be done alongside the continued provision in Ysbyty Cwm Cynon.

  • Cllr Dawn Wood to stand down

Dawn WoodA message from Cllr Dawn Wood

    Dear Pontypridd Town Ward resident,

As many of you will be aware, I’ve had to take a period of absence from my role as both your RCT Councillor and Pontypridd Town Councillor for the past few months because of significant health challenges linked to a brain tumour.

Thank you for all your kind words, support and understanding during this time.

After careful consideration and consultation with my medical team, I have come to the difficult decision that I must step down from my role to focus on my health and well being and have therefore tendered my resignation with immediate effect.

The Westminster Government has announced that the Winter Fuel Payment – worth up to £300 - will now be means-tested. Only pensioners on Pension Credit or other means-tested benefits will receive it. This cut could leave half a million pensioners in Wales worse off.

Means-testing the Winter Fuel Payment will place people’s health at risk, placing even further pressure on our NHS.
