‘Absurd absence of leadership’ by Westminster ‘truly unforgivable’, says Liz Saville Roberts

Plaid Cymru’s Westminster leader, Liz Saville Roberts MP, has today (Thursday 25 August) called on the UK government to return the price cap to pre-April levels. The party also called for the price cap to be extended to small businesses and charities, which are currently excluded, and for financial support for vulnerable households to be doubled.

Plaid Cymru MS for South Wales Central Heledd Fychan – who was Councillor for Pontypridd Town Ward when Storm Dennis hit in February 2020 welcomes the review.

“Over two years since the devastation in 2020, not all reports into the floods have been published and residents and business owners still don’t know what happened or why, or whether their homes and businesses will be safe from flooding in the future,” she said.

Climate change, coal tip safety, flooding and the cost of living crisis are some of Plaid Cymru’s key focuses ahead of next month’s council elections. Pauline Jarman, has laid out what the party’s priorities would be for RCT should they take control of the council after the election on May 5.

Covering a wide range of topics such as the cost of living crisis, education, coal tips and the environment, she said the first thing they’d do is look at the Covid review and how it affects children’s education which she said is a key consideration. Ms Jarman also said they’d focus on the mental health of children and the loneliness of the elderly post-pandemic.

Following the blows that our town centre has faced over the last few years, such as the closure of Marks and Spencer and HSBC and the demolition of the Bingo Hall, not to mention Covid and the floods of 2020, it is fantastic to see so many small, local shops opening n the town.  There really is a new, vibrant energy. 

Plaid Cymru candidates were out the length and breadth of the constituency over Easter weekend.  Talking to people and delivering leaflets.

This election is taking place during one of the most challenging times in all our lives. We hope we are at last emerging from the Covid pandemic that has caused so much pain and misery to our communities over the last two years, but as we know, Covid nor its impact have not gone away.

Plaid Cymru will stand 55 candidates across RCT in the council elections on May the 5th.  In the Pontypridd Constituency, we will be contesting 19 seats.  If you want change on RCT the choice is clear, vote for your local Plaid Cymru candidate!

On Saturday 2 October, Heledd Fychan, Plaid Cymru Member of the Senedd for South Wales Central officially opened her regional office in the heart of Pontypridd town Centre. 

Heledd was joined by the Leader of Plaid Cymru, Adam Price MS, and local activists from across the region. 

More than 20 complaints were made to the ombudsman about the behaviour of members of a Welsh community council in a year amid claims that councillors are “fighting like ferrets in a sack.”

A Freedom of Information request to the ombudsman by Plaid Cymru campaigner and local resident Ioan Bellin revealed complaints about Llantwit Fardre Community Council ranged from accountability and integrity, promotion of equality and respect to a duty to upholding the law although none were upheld.

Between October 2019 and December 2019 15 complaints were made, there were six between January and March 2020 and a further one between July 2020 and September 2020.
